COL’CACCHIO – SERVING MORE THAN JUST PIZZA

Overview

In November 2024, Col’Cacchio turned up the heat with the launch of its bold new summer menu—signalling the start of a new chapter for the beloved Italian-inspired restaurant chain. Backed by a powerhouse culinary team including new CEO Etienne Pieterse, co-founder Kinga Baranowska, and chef Isla Rechner, the refreshed offering expanded far beyond pizza to include vibrant brunch dishes, innovative small plates, and indulgent desserts with a proudly South African twist.

The Strategy

Rather than simply announcing a menu, we built a narrative. Our PR-first approach focused on evolution, experience, and local flavour—positioning Col’Cacchio as a modern Italian eatery with deep local roots. We placed our storytelling in the hands of top-tier journalists, while carefully timed interviews and high-impact visuals gave the brand authority and flair.

Execution Highlights

  • Strategic media engagement led to 13 media items across broadcast and online platforms
  • Exclusive TimesLive Q&A with CEO Etienne Pieterse detailed the brand’s future-forward vision
  • Live 947 radio crossing took place at the media event in Bryanston
  • Featured in Cape Argus, Cape Times, Food & Home, Food Blog, and The Ballito Magazine
  • Menu items like “Pap Pops” and the Aperitivo board sparked curiosity and coverage
  • All coverage received 100% positive sentiment

Results

  • Advertising Value Equivalent (AVE): R2.58 million
  • Potential Reach: Over 10.7 million
  • PR-driven messaging reframed the brand beyond its pizza legacy—emphasising bold flavours, creative dishes, and Col’Cacchio’s role in shaping South Africa’s modern food culture

Why It Worked

This wasn’t just a menu—it was a movement. By grounding the campaign in PR, Col’Cacchio’s message felt authentic and relevant. The media didn’t just report on new dishes; they told the story of a restaurant redefined. When strategy meets story, the appetite for engagement is endless.

FOREVER NEW X NATASHA JOUBERT – A PR-DRIVEN LOVE STORY IN WHITE

Forever New & Natasha Joubert conceptualised a seven-piece “in white” collection and tasked Brand Cartel in securing positive third party validation through a solid PR-comms strategy.

Overview

In March 2025, Forever New South Africa made headlines with the launch of its first-ever bridal collection, In White, in collaboration with former Miss South Africa (2023) and bride-to-be, Natasha Joubert. The seven-piece collection, designed for pre-wedding moments, combined aspirational fashion with authenticity—marking a pivotal moment for the brand and a powerful testament to the effectiveness of a media-led PR strategy.

Strategy

Instead of relying on traditional media spend, the campaign leveraged public relations as its core vehicle—building narrative equity through strong editorial placements, celebrity influence, and emotional storytelling. With Joubert at the heart of the campaign, Forever New was able to drive resonance and relevance across earned, owned, and social media.

Execution Highlights

  • Dual-location launch events at Menlyn Park Shopping Centre (Pretoria) and aboard the Mirage Catamaran (Cape Town) created striking visuals and multi-platform buzz.

  • Influencer and celebrity attendance amplified reach across Instagram and Facebook, accounting for 42% of total coverage.

  • The collaboration gained coverage from Entertainment SA, Glamour, Hello Joburg, Sandton Times, Bona, The South African, Saturday Star, and East Coast Radio, among others.

  • 100% positive sentiment across 31 media items from 6 March to 2 April 2025.

  • Joubert’s personal involvement—wearing the collection during her own wedding festivities—added powerful authenticity and relatability.

Results

  • Total AVE: R23.3 million

  • 31 media mentions across print, online, broadcast and social

  • Featured on top media platforms with high-impact visuals and consistent brand messaging

  • Significant online traction with user-generated content praising quality, design and emotion behind the campaign

Why It Worked

The Forever New x Natasha Joubert bridal campaign was a textbook case of what happens when a PR-led strategy is rooted in personal storytelling, beautiful product, and emotional relevance. The collection wasn’t just worn—it was lived, loved, and shared. And that made all the difference.

MENLYN PARK X GQ COVER FEATURE – WHERE MEDIA BUYING MEETS PR INTEGRITY

In an age of oversaturated media, the collaboration between Menlyn Park Shopping Centre and GQ South Africa proves that the sweet spot lies at the intersection of paid visibility and earned credibility.

To elevate Menlyn Park’s fashion-forward positioning, we orchestrated a premium editorial feature that landed the centre on the cover of GQ. What made this campaign stand out was our dual-channel approach—blending strategic media buying with public relations finesse.

The Approach

Rather than relying solely on PR, we invested in a media partnership with GQ, ensuring guaranteed visibility through paid editorial placement. But we didn’t stop there. We layered the campaign with a robust PR strategy—crafting angles that spoke to style, innovation, and culture. The result? Organic media coverage and social buzz that amplified the paid placement, rather than duplicating it.

The Impact

  • Guaranteed reach through GQ’s national digital platforms

  • Earned credibility with media outlets referencing the feature organically

  • Social traction through influencer seeding and behind-the-scenes content

  • Elevated brand positioning for Menlyn Park as a style destination

Why It Worked
Media buying secured the spotlight. PR made it shine. Together, they transformed a typical fashion feature into a high-impact brand moment—proving that when spend meets story, the results are unforgettable.

Campaign Overview:

Monkey Shoulder, a brand celebrated for its unconventional and playful approach, launched a PR campaign to disrupt the traditional whisky category. This campaign was designed not just to promote their whisky as the ideal choice for mixing but also to align it with vibrant cultural elements like streetwear, mixed-music, and street art, resonating with an audience unafraid to break norms.

  • Develop a narrative that appeals to a curated media list, resonating particularly with affluent black consumers.

GET OVER 7 MILLION IMPRESSIONS USING CLEVER DIGITAL ADVERTISING

– BRYANSTON SHOPPING CENTRE –

Bryanston Shopping Centre had a strong offline presence and community stronghold, but the traffic to their website was minimal. The centre needed to enter the digital age and target both new and old consumers through this medium, by creating a campaign to build online awareness, and drive traffic to their website.

We created a simple digital marketing strategy to target the current demographic. Our Google experts categorised the centre’s tenants by trading type/classification, and created Google digital advertising campaigns and artwork for each tenant according to their specific offerings.

Here’s what we did to create our successful Google digital advertising campaign for the centre:

  • Designed Google display banners.
  • Implemented important keyword searches.
  • Set up remarketing banners to keep the brand top of mind with consumers who had already visited the website.
  • Set up tenant display banners to push awareness of the offerings at the centre through moving images.
  • Repositioned Bryanston Shopping Centre away from being called the “Checkers Centre” by creating awareness around the other tenants’ broad range of products and services through advertising on Google’s massive display and search engines.

Surpassing all original target objectives, the campaign was a huge success! Google Ads showed on devices within a 5km radius of the centre 7 364 758 times!

A NEW ICON

– BRYANSTON SHOPPING CENTRE –

Bryanston Shopping Centre needed a new icon. The once-bland tower acted solely as a cellphone tower, and since the centre was already undergoing a new look, this was the perfect opportunity to reveal it.

The Tower consisted of four panels, positioned in a prime location, on top of a long iconic pillar. We turned it into an advertiser’s dream by branding the shaft of the tower with the new Bryanston Shopping Centre look and feel, and turning the four panels into illuminated advertising space.

The tower was designed to have replaceable artwork, but to begin with, the artwork imitated the unique offerings of Bryanston Shopping Centre. We created four key messages for the tower, each one catering for a different offering at the centre…

  • “Stay a while”

Catered to the diverse offering of the centre, its restaurants and boutique stores, showing any potential consumer that Bryanston Shopping Centre is a place to stay a while, whether to beat William Nicol traffic or to stroll at leisure.

  • “Home away from home”

This messaging catered to stay-at-home moms and work-from-home individuals. The messaging is simple; Bryanston Shopping Centre is your home away from home, because of it’s homely stores and feeling of community that emulates from the centre.

  • “Spend quality time”

This messaging speaks to the Bryanston community, by lending itself as a place to bond with loved ones over a meal or browsing through the bespoke stores.

  • “Meet & eat”

This messaging speaks specifically to the restaurant offerings at the centre. It says that Bryanston Shopping Centre is a place to grab a quick coffee with a friend, make new memories with a special someone, or celebrate occasions with your friends and family.

WE’RE SO HUNGRY FOR AWESOME CAMPAIGNS, THEY BREAK WORLD RECORDS!

– MAPONYA MALL –

Maponya Mall approached us to attract new audiences to the mall and be recognised as a world-class activations venue. We gave a nod to the challenge, and went above and beyond it, by creating a campaign that not only made the mall a popular tourist destination, but got them in the global history books!

How did we do this? We partnered Clover Creamo’naise and Maponya Mall to create an experiential event that had never been done before in the area – with South African celebrities, building a sandwich so long it would break a Guinness World Record. And it did – 4km of sandwich later!

We strategically partnered with an FMCG group to execute this event and break the record for the longest sandwich ever made. Our one-of-a-kind event got the surrounding community talking and spending more time in and around the mall. Maponya Mall gained amazing PR value worth R1 640 780, reaching a total of 17 438 095 people through the media. The event was broadcast on radio, in print and on digital platforms. Maponya Mall’s foot count increased by 15%, while 1 341 496 eyes laid on Maponya Mall social content that month.

So, who ate the sandwich? We allocated 2km to Baragwanath Hospital, while NGOs and the public got 1km each, too.
